Bellarmine or Bartmann Jug: Bearded Face decoration to neck / Applied Medallion featuring a crown or similar over a Love Heart. Pottery Stoneware Handled and applied decoration. Salt Glaze. Pint or so. 213 mm. Mid to late 1600s
Excellent. Some small chips around the base edge. Body has wear, scratches and scuffs but also kiln kisses and making marks. A slice of the medallion is missing but this has happened when the jug was made as there is glaze both underneath and down the side that remains. All in all a great early piece of stoneware in a nice size. Grade: 8 Estimate: $900 - 1200
