Registered / 31 May 1845 / (In Ribbon Around Bottle): Maugham's Patent Carrara Water. A chipped in near base. (South Australia) Aerated Water Maugham Applied top. Green. 13 oz. 277 mm. 1840s
Good. Polished. The upper inside has a pitted effect. Scratched to inner neck. A few little lip nicks. Registered embossing is rounded and indistinct. Reasonably good outside, a few pitted marks, some scratches and minor scuff marks. One of the early Adelaide manufacturers has chipped a large A near the base into the glass, this was common practice in Adelaide on maughams for some reason. Only being an A, we cannot say for sure which manufacturer did this. Main embossing is not bad, it has some high point nicks and wear. I have called this green, but it is by no means dark. In fact, it has a sort of lime colour to it. A great, historical item. Grade: 6.5 Estimate: $200 - 250
