Royal Mail Steam Packet Compy Bowl. Morley & Ashworth Pottery.. Hotelware. Shipping. Bowl. Blue print on white. 143 mm diameter. 1859-1862

Very Good. (7). The Royal Mail Steam Packet Company was a British shipping company founded in London in 1839 by a Scot, James McQueen. The line's motto was Per Mare Ubique (everywhere by sea). After a troubled start, it became the largest shipping group in the world in 1927 when it took over the White Star Line. The company was liquidated and its assets taken over by the newly formed Royal Mail Lines in 1932 after financial trouble and scandal. This bowl dates to 1859-1862 as it has a Morley and Ashworth potters stamp, this partnership was only around for that four year period. Quite stained and discoloured which is most evident internally but still seen elsewhere, there is some wear and scratches to the inner bowl as well. Crazing throughout. Short hairline or two. A little fine wear. Fantastic and early item which I believe is very rare too! Estimate: $200-300
