(Mr. Punch Figural). (British Registration Diamond) / Gardner's Ink Works / Lower Whitecross St London. No base mark. (United Kingdom) (Late Kingsley Durdin Collection). Ink. Stoneware. Mr. Punch Figural. Embossed and impressed. Salt glaze. 130 mm. 1851
Excellent. (8). Difficult to grade, as there are making splits scattered around. These all have some form of glaze over the edges, so are making marks. Some other little dints from making. Lower left has a little blowout type mark with some splits from it, again, this is from making. Lower right and across base edge has another Y shaped hairline looking mark, which again is a making split with some glaze over its edges on close inspection. Grey lead under base, one says 8.4.47, the other says 8.4.1851. The top of the registration diamond has a P, but looks like an F on some angles, which either dates this to 1847 or 1851, being a P it is 1851. Fantastic registered ink, we have never sold one of these before. This is from the late Kingsley Durdin collection. Estimate: $300-500
