A1 At / Lloyds / Improved / Filter / (Australian Coat of Arms) / Filter. No potters stamp. (William Holford, Adelaide, South Australia). Pottery. Water Filter. Majolica water filter shell with applied and impressed decoration and writing. About 2 gallon. 410 mm. 1888
Good. (6). A superb filter shell attributed to William Holford of Adelaide. We have been told that this was probably made for the 1888 Adelaide Juvenile International Exhibition. This featured on the cover of The Australian Bottle and Collectables Review in the January to March edition in 2022. Both the spigot hole surround and the handle on the right have been rebuilt. 22 x 7 mm flake to upper rim on front right, this is shallow. Fine hairline down from this on inside, can't be seen on outside, this is about 90 mm long. Inner rim around to rear from this has a thin chip type mark over about 23 mm. 30 x 6 mm flake to outer front right rim. Flake to lower right is shallow, this is about 10 x 7 mm. Couple of chips under the heel are likely from making, there is one at the right and one to the rear, both only on the heel which sits on the table. Scratches scattered around. Some wear to the heel from use with a little base edge glaze flake or two. A few little impact nicks and glaze flakes to the body. An amazing piece of pottery with wonderful colours and extremely rare, possibly even unique? Estimate: $4000-5000
