G. Saxby / Manning River / Trade (GS Monogram) Mark. No potters mark. (New South Wales). Ginger Beer. Cork Stoppered. Salt glaze. Impressed. Dump. 10 oz. 171 mm. 1880s
Fair. (5.7). Superb job, but a large chip to right rear lip has been repaired, this is about 30 x 20 mm. Some shallow flaking to upper lip has been very well repaired as well. Wear around shoulder with some glaze flakes. Below the trade mark is the beginning of a fine hairline, this goes round the left below the word trade where it widens to a fine crack and curves around and upwards where it narrows again to a hairline and finishes near the front right shoulder up from the word River and across a little. Some wear and little glaze flakes around the base edge and heel, there is Blutak under the base as well. Some potters blowouts scattered around. A bit of wear scattered around the body. A decent looking example of a rare and sought after bottle, this is the first example we have handled. Estimate: $200-300
