R. McKenzie. (2 mm impression). No potters stamp. (Launceston, Tasmania). Ginger Beer. Impressed. Dump shape. Cork stopper. Impressed. Salt Glaze. 174 mm. 1880s
Very Good. (7.4). Some wear and little glaze flakes around the upper lip. Wear through the glaze around the shoulder, there is one flake to left shoulder of about 4 x 3 mm. Lumpy mark to right base edge is from making. 10 x 3 mm very shallow flake under heel, some minor wear and marks elsewhere to base. Some wear around the body, heaviest to upper body as well as on the making lumps and bumps. A few discoloured scratches and a couple of other scratches which are through the glaze. Some little nicks and glaze flakes to be found. This was made at one of the early Tasmanian potteries, and so is a truly Tasmanian item! Extremely rare too, this is the small print variation with letters being only 2 mm high! We have never handled one of these before. Estimate: $1500-2000.
Reserve: $1500.
