POISON / (Three rows of 10 heavily embossed hobnails around bottle, one row of four with space in middle for label). Base mark: Patent / (L&TCo monogram). (Lewis & Towers, London, United Kingdom) (This is from the late Kingsley Durdin collection). Poison. Cobalt. Thin flared lip. Cobalt. 3 oz. 126 mm. 1870s
Excellent. (8.5). Some fine inner contents residue type haze. You can actually see on the side where the four hobnails are that there were originally another 6 in the mould that have been filled! A bit of fine surface dullness. Some fine scratches and minor marks. 'Lynch & Co' of Aldersgate Street, London were the registered patentees in 1872, this seems to have Lewis & Towers monogram in the base, so must have been passed over soon after. This example with the thin lip is one of their earlier examples. This is the first one we have sold in this 3 ounce size, the last was only 2 ounce and had 8 hobnails rather than 10 per line. This is from the late Kingsley Durdin collection. Estimate: $300-400
