Large bulk storage demijohn, hinge moulded in a bag. Extremely crude. 2 Gallon.. Black Glass. Black Glass. Applied top. Hinge moulded in a hessian bag or similar. Very crude. Around 2 Gallon. About 465 mm. Mid 19th century
Near Mint. (9). Some dust and grime which will clean off, including some inner contents residue type grime. A few scratches and the odd scuff. Amazing item, has plenty of weird marks, but all from making. Mark to neck is a lumpy making mark. Whitish looking lumpy streak to shoulder is a making mark. Similar marks down body which are quite large, also from making. Inclusion or two as well. Pronounced seam down the body and across the base, synonymous with a hinge mould type of manufacture. What is not so usual is the odd shape and dimpled texture, looks like it has been poured into a bag of some sort and shaped itself accordingly, which is what the vendor suggested was the case! If you want an amazing, and large piece of black glass, then this is the piece! Estimate: $100-200
