Magnet Works / Trade (Magnet) Mark // North / Adelaide. Around base heel: C. Bishop Maker // Brompton. S. A. (South Australia) (Late Kingsley Durdin Collection). Aerated Water. Maugham. Applied top. Aqua. 10 oz. 279 mm. 1880s
Good. (6.5). 12 x 3 mm section of nibbled flakes to inner lip at the front, this has some bruises amongst it as well. Stained throughout. Neck has dark scratch type marks around it. Pitted scratch around shoulder. This has been buffed on a wheel in an attempt to shine it up, subsequently the embossing has been flattened in places, the T of Trade simply does not exist any more! Pitted scratches scattered around, other scratches and scuff marks. Remains of some little impact marks and fisheyes. An exceedingly rare item, this is the first to have ever been offered for auction! NOTE: That was the description when we sold this in Auction 32 in 2018. It was purchased by the late Kingsley Durdin who had it polished professionally to improve its appearance. This removed the dark scratches to neck and shoulder and therefore its appearance, of course the embossing is still a bit flattened from the original buff polish. The thin bubble to inner body has surfaced during the polish. This remains the only example we have ever seen for sale, needless to say, it is from the late Kingsley Durdin collection. Estimate: $1500-2000
