Usher's "O.V.G." and "Special Reserve" Scotch Whiskies. Framed advertising "mirror" and thermometer. (United Kingdom) (This is from the late Kingsley Durdin collection). Spirits. Whisky/Whiskey. Framed painted under glass advertising thermometer. 670 x 540 mm. 1890s
Near Mint. (N/A). SUPERB PIECE! Has medals around the top and bottom for Adelaide 1887, New Orleans 1884-5, Calcutta 1884, Jamaica 1891 and London 1873. Makers name at lower front is Forrest & Son, Glasgow. Thermometer is in Fahrenheit, currently says 65 degrees which equates to 18 degrees Celsius, which is pretty much correct, so this still works. Some grime around the tube makes it hard to see the level. The O and V of OVG have a bit of deterioration. Some discoloured spots and so forth. A bit of dust that will clean off. Couple of lines of masking tape across the rear are helping hold a small middle panel in place. Original Forrest & Son label at rear is pretty deteriorated, but fantastic and ornate in its own right. It states that they were Artistic and Show card manufacturers. Even can see where there were details on how to use the thermometer. Patent date of 92 below the thermometer, this likely dates to soon after that period of 1892. This will be a standout in any advertising collection! This is part of the late Kingsley Durdin collection. Estimate: $500-750
