Trent Brewery / Lancefield impressed into opposing slab seals half way down the body. No potters stamp. (Victoria). Demijohn. Barrel. 2 gallon barrel, appears to be Bendigo Pottery, salt glaze, banded with slab seals. 322 mm. 1888-1890s
Good. (6). Handle has broken off. Chips and flaking around the upper rim and edge, one is about 27 x 11 mm on upper edge, one to outer edge of lip is about 23 x 13 mm. Another of 43 x 8 mm to upper edge is quite shallow, there are others as well. Some minor flaking to inner edge of hole at top. Near the top at the Trent Brewery side is a potters blowout of about 17 x 8 mm. The Trent Brewery seal has some making splits, there are some flakes along the bottom edge of this and some wear across the NT of Trent and towards the B of Brewery, some flaking amongst this wear. Some flaking and wear to the upper part of the seal as well. Another potters blowout below this of about 17 x 8 mm, a smaller example below that. The spigot hole ear the base on this side has a chip below it over about 40 x 30 mm. The Lancefield slab seal is pretty good, there is a flake below the second E of about 15 x 5 mm which is quite shallow and some other wear and minor flakes in places. Small mark above this is another potters blowout. Couple of minor flakes and marks to the base edge. Some general light wear in places around the body. A rare and very sought after piece of pottery. We have not sold one since Auction 2 in 2010. Estimate: $500-750
